Ever wonder how a mechanical engineer ends up leading online education? Here's Alex Duncan's unexpected journey to the Online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMSCS) program. From Refineries to OMSCS: One Yellow Jacket’s Path From a Texas Oil Town to Educational Technology OMSCS is for students who want a top-ranked degree, but also the flexibility to fit it in around their work and family lives. Students who want to push their own career forward, but without the high cost of an on-campus degree program. If you’re aiming for roles that require a master’s degree—especially in ML, AI, or research-heavy engineering roles—OMSCS gives you that credential without the financial burden or career disruption of a full-time on-campus program. OMSCS provided a structured environment to learn: Android (SDP), operating systems (Intro to OS), how to build useful products and interfaces (HCI), and tech in education and healthcare (EdTech, IHI). Why did I start OMSCS? When OMSCS first started around 2014-2015, I had a bunch of friends taking it and asked me if I like to join them. Unfortunately (or just making excuses) I just manage to join a technology unicorn and wanted to do my best so I did not put much thought into entertaining OMSCS. The term "program" refers to a structured set of instructions, a planned series of activities, or a broadcast or performance designed for a specific purpose.
